How should I design my Spot UV Leaflets?

As with any marketing tool, you want to make sure you make a lasting impression! Read on to make sure your artwork is set up correctly! The design of your Spot UV leaflet is incredibly important. One of the key things to be aware of is the amount of UV coating you are using. You should never go full coverage as it doesn’t look good, but instead, focus on which elements of your design you want to stand out. We recommend aiming for about 30% maximum coverage, as this will make your artwork attention-grabbing.

Spot UV layers can work well on text, images, and graphic shapes, but we wouldn’t recommend going too small with the text, as the quality can look poor. One of the best ways to get the perfect design is to use the Spot UV layer to add high-impact depth to your logo or brand name, so it is easy for customers to remember you or use it on contrasting colours, so that one particular shade stands out over the other. This is a great finishing technique, creating a striking effect and special finish.

As with all artwork for any print orders, with spot UV artwork, there should be a minimum of 3mm bleed. When you are adding spot UV varnish, we would recommend a 5mm safe area, e.g. for booklets we would recommend 5mm clear at the bounding edge. All fonts within the artwork should be converted to outline,s and imagery should be a minimum of 300dpi to ensure a great finish.

You should supply the elements that you would like to use spot UV on as a separate file in a single colour, such as magenta or black.

What other products do you offer with your Spot UV coating on?

Using our spot UV machine, we are able to offer our spot gloss finish on our perfect-bound booklets and brochures, as well as our spot UV business cards and presentation folders. Any product that we offer that has a minimum thickness of 250gsm! This is needed as we need to be able to apply either matt lamination or soft touch laminate for the printing process. Spot UV is applied with the same techniques as our foil embellishments.
