How should I design my Custom Foil Business Cards?

When designing personalised metal foil business cards or any artwork, it’s important to consider exactly which pieces of information or imagery you want to highlight most and choose these areas for the foil element. It’s also important not to go too overboard with the foil or use really small fonts or details. You are free to customise your design to help you stand out from the crowd, showing your level of professionalism.

Both gold foil print business cards and silver foil look great with most colour themes, but contrasting colours, in particular, will help make your foil business card stand out.

Please note: You should make the foil design elements as a separate file (we would always recommend vector format if possible, as it gives the best quality). Typically, these elements are supplied in solid black or magenta for easy reference. All artwork for print should be supplied in CMYK, no matter whether you are ordering luxury business cards or want something else. All design software, including Illustrator and Photoshop, can set the correct colour scheme before you start. Anything supplied in other formats is converted to CMYK as standard, and this could result in colour changes.

What sizes do you offer?

You’ll see that foiling is available on a wide range of our printed products. In regard to business cards, we offer the standard 85mm by 55mm and 55mm by 55mm square.

What colour foils are available?

We offer 7 different types of foil, so there is no reason to have gold foil business cards. There are Blue, Gold, Green, Holographic, Red, Rose Gold and Silver foil options, all of which are great options depending on your design and the look you are looking for. Currently, our foiling process only allows for single-sided and not double-sided foiling. This is because when we apply foil on both sides, it does not meet our quality levels.

How are they made?

Our foiled business cards are similar to our glossy Spot UV Business Cards—your design is printed and then laminated, and the elements you would like foiling are printed on top of this embossed or raised layer. Then the foil is applied on top. It is this process that ensures that not only do they look great, but that anyone who holds them can feel the quality. In this way, our foil cards can never be supplied uncoated, as lamination is needed as part of the process.

Can you foil them double-sided?

Due to our production processes, double-sided foil business cards are not possible. Technically, it is; however, due to a wide range of factors, this causes issues with the quality of the foil. Rather than producing products that are below our high standards, we focus on offering products that can be produced to the level we require.
